Tax year 2027

Mutual Fund Tax Calculator

Your fund company deducts this before paying you and passes it to NCCPL. For a person the rate no longer depends on the fund type or on how long the units were held, which is a recent simplification.

Your units

Tax when you redeem mutual fund units. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.

Who holds the units

Pick company only if the investment is in a registered company's name. Anything held by you personally, or by a partnership, is a person.

What kind of fund

Your fund company states this on your account statement.

Enter what you invested and what you got back, and this works out the tax on the gain.

Where these figures come from

Statutory basis
Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, as amended by the Finance Act 2026, for tax year 2027 (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
Last checked against the statute
by BarrioVibe, which files income tax returns through FBR IRIS.

These figures are an estimate computed from the rates above, not tax advice for your situation. Your return depends on facts a form cannot see, so treat the number as a starting point and speak to us before you file on it.

What thisdoes not cover

It is accurate for what it models, and everything below changes the answer. None of it can be handled by a form with a few fields in it.

  • Dividends the fund paid you along the way, which are taxed under their own rules rather than as a gain
  • Losses on other redemptions in the same year
  • The fund’s own charges, front-end loads and management fees, which reduce your return without reducing this tax
  • Voluntary pension schemes and other wrappers, which have their own treatment entirely
  • Whether your fund is classified as a stock fund, which your account statement rather than this calculator settles

Questions

The questionspeople ask

  • How much tax do you pay on mutual funds in Pakistan?

For a person, 15% of the gain, whether it is a stock fund or any other fund, and how long you held the units does not change it. A company pays 15% on a stock fund and 25% on any other fund.

  • Who deducts it?

Your fund company, at the point you redeem. It withholds the tax and passes it to NCCPL, so what reaches your account is already net of it.

  • Does it matter how long I held the units?

For a person on units bought from 1 July 2025, no: one rate applies however long you held them. That is a simplification of an older regime where the rate varied.

  • What is a stock fund?

A fund classified as such under the collective investment scheme rules, broadly one investing predominantly in equities. Your account statement states which category your fund is in; this calculator cannot tell from the figures alone.

  • What about the dividends the fund paid me?

Those are taxed separately, under the rules for dividends, and are not part of the gain this calculates. A fund can therefore produce two different tax charges in the same year.

Next step

Deducted is not the same as final.

A fund deducts on redemption, but your year may look different once losses and other income are in it. We prepare returns for investors.
