Tax year 2027

Job Offer Comparison Calculator

Two gross salaries are not comparable once the higher one crosses a slab boundary, because the extra gross is taxed at a higher rate than the salary beneath it. This taxes each one separately and compares what is left.

The two jobs

Gross salary for each, before any deduction. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.

Salaries are stated

Enter both salaries and this compares what each one actually pays you, after tax.

These figures are an estimate computed from the rates above, not tax advice for your situation. Your return depends on facts a form cannot see, so treat the number as a starting point and speak to us before you file on it.

What thisdoes not weigh

It is accurate for what it models, and everything below changes the answer. None of it can be handled by a form with a few fields in it.

  • Everything about a job that is not pay: the work, the people, the hours, the commute and what you learn
  • Anything but salary income
  • Zakat, provident fund, donations and pension relief, which would move both offers by the same amount
  • Provident fund matching, medical cover, a car, or any other benefit an employer values differently from you
  • Bonuses and equity, neither of which is salary and neither of which is guaranteed

Questions

The questionspeople ask

  • How do I compare two job offers in Pakistan after tax?

Tax each salary on its own and compare what is left, which is what this calculator does. Comparing gross figures is misleading once the higher offer crosses a slab boundary, because the extra gross is then taxed at a higher rate than the salary underneath it. The difference in take-home is usually smaller than the difference in gross.

  • What gross does an offer need to match what I earn now?

The calculator works it out and shows it whenever the offer pays less. It is the gross salary whose take-home equals your current take-home, solved against the same slabs. That figure is the one to negotiate against, because it is the point at which the move costs you nothing in cash terms.

  • A higher salary put me in a higher slab. Is the move still worth it?

On cash, almost always yes. The higher rate applies only to the part of the salary above the threshold, so a higher gross always produces a higher take-home. What changes is how much of the increase you keep, and that is the number this calculator exists to show you before you decide.

  • What about provident fund, medical cover and a car?

None of them is in here, and all of them can be worth more than the gap between two salaries. An employer contribution to a recognised provident fund is exempt within the limits in the Sixth Schedule; a car and accommodation are valued under their own rules and are taxable. Compare the cash here, then weigh the benefits separately.

  • Should I decide on money alone?

This calculator only knows about money, and it is the smaller half of most job decisions. The work, the people, the hours, the commute and what you will be able to do next are not in any of these numbers, and they are usually what people cite when a move works out or does not.

Two employers in one tax year almost never withhold the right amount between them. We file returns for salaried individuals and settle the difference.
