Tax year 2027
Reverse Salary Calculator
Every other calculator here starts with a gross salary. This one starts with the number you actually care about, the amount that reaches your account, and finds the gross that produces it.
Your target take-home
The amount you want to actually receive. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.
What you want left after income tax.
Enter the take-home pay you want and this works backwards to the gross salary that produces it.
Where these figures come from
- Statutory basis
- Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, as amended by the Finance Act 2026, for tax year 2027 (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
- Last checked against the statute
- by BarrioVibe, which files income tax returns through FBR IRIS.
These figures are an estimate computed from the rates above, not tax advice for your situation. Your return depends on facts a form cannot see, so treat the number as a starting point and speak to us before you file on it.

What thisdoes not do
It is accurate for what it models, and everything below changes the answer. None of it can be handled by a form with a few fields in it.
- Anything but salary income
- Zakat, provident fund, donations and pension relief, each of which changes the gross needed for a given take-home
- EOBI, which comes off take-home without changing the tax
- What an employer is willing to pay, which is a different question from what the arithmetic requires
- Bonuses and allowances, which are valued under their own rules
Questions
The questionspeople ask
How do I work out the gross salary I need?
You cannot do it with a single formula, because the tax depends on the gross you are solving for. What works is to try a gross, tax it, see whether the take-home lands where you want, and narrow in. That is exactly what this calculator does, against the same FBR slabs the salary calculator uses, and it lands within a rupee of your target.
Is the gross I need just my take-home plus tax?
No, and this is where most people go wrong. Adding the tax on your target take-home gives a figure that is itself taxed at a higher rate, so it still falls short. The answer has to be solved for rather than added up, which is why the number here is usually higher than people expect.
Why does asking for a bit more take-home cost so much more gross?
Because the extra gross is taxed at your marginal rate, not your average one. In the 35% band, every extra rupee of take-home needs about 1.54 rupees of gross. That gap widens with every slab you climb, which is why a modest increase in what you want to receive can mean a large increase in what you have to ask for.
Does this include provident fund and EOBI?
No. It solves for income tax only. A provident fund contribution and EOBI both come off your take-home without changing your tax, so if your employer deducts either, the gross you need is higher than the figure here by roughly those amounts. The salary calculator has both.
Can I use this to set a freelance rate?
Only if you are taxed as a salaried person, which a freelancer usually is not. Freelance and business income is taxed on a different and steeper table, and IT export receipts have their own regime under section 154A. Both have their own calculators here.
