Tax year 2027

Salary Increment Calculator

A raise is quoted gross and paid net. This works out the tax on the salary before and after, so the difference between them is what the raise is really worth.

Your salary now and the increase you have been offered. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.

Salary is stated

Where these figures come from

Statutory basis
Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, as amended by the Finance Act 2026, for tax year 2027 (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
Last checked against the statute

These figures are an estimate computed from the rates above, not tax advice for your situation. Your return depends on facts a form cannot see, so treat the number as a starting point and speak to us before you file on it.

What thisdoes not do

It is accurate for what it models, and everything below changes the answer. None of it can be handled by a form with a few fields in it.

  • Anything but salary income
  • Zakat, provident fund, donations and pension relief, which are on the salary calculator and would move both sides of the comparison equally
  • A raise that arrives partway through the year, where only some months are paid at the new salary
  • Bonuses, allowances and benefits, which are valued under their own rules
  • What your employer will actually withhold month to month, which follows a projection under section 149

Questions

The questionspeople ask

  • How much of a raise do you actually keep in Pakistan?

It depends entirely on which slab the raise falls in. A raise inside the 1% band is kept almost in full; the same raise on a salary already in the 35% band keeps 65 paisa in the rupee. The calculator works out the tax before and after the raise and shows the difference, which is the only way to get it right when a raise straddles a boundary.

  • Will a raise ever leave me worse off?

No. Pakistan taxes salary progressively, which means a higher rate applies only to the part of your income above the threshold, not to all of it. Crossing into a higher slab always leaves you with more than before, just not with all of the raise. The belief that a raise can cost you money is the single most common misunderstanding about tax slabs and it is not true here.

  • Why is my effective rate lower than my slab rate?

Because your slab rate applies only to your top band of income. Everything below it is taxed at the lower rates beneath, including the first tranche which is not taxed at all. Your effective rate is the tax as a share of your whole salary, and it is always lower than the rate on your top slab.

  • My raise arrives in April. Does this still apply?

Not directly. This calculates a full year at each salary, which is the right comparison for deciding whether a raise is worth taking. A raise arriving partway through the tax year means only some months are paid at the new figure, and the multi-year calculator is built for that case.

  • Should I negotiate on gross or on take-home?

Employers quote gross and think in gross, so negotiate there, but decide using take-home. A gross figure that sounds generous can be worth much less than it appears if it lands in a higher slab, and the only way to know is to work the tax on both figures.
